Fleet Week

Cost of fuel for three, 1-hour Blue Angel performances with 3 jets: $54,000

Cost of fuel for survey flights that are the preliminary event of Fleet Week: $90,000

Total fuel costs: $144,000

For the price of the fuel alone, we could fund approximately 24 lower-division, semester-length college courses.

But then, why would we do that? Better to ooh and ahh at the Angels, thump our chests, wave our flags, and revel in our false pride.

Oh, hell, gal. It's worse than that.
NASA bragged about throwing a rocket into the bottom of the moon at 6000 MPH this morning.
And it only cost taxpayers $17.7 MILLION.
Just to watch dust fly around?
Are y'kidding me?

Those tuition hikes in Cali are terrible. Glad to see students picking up the Berkley spirit and protesting. Let's bail 'em out!

Christmas comes but once a year
And perhaps it's just as well.
With food and drink and bonhomie
Our tummy's prone to swell.

But it is a chance to tell our friends
The ones too oft neglected,
That we're glad they're there
A friendship much respected.

Thank you.
May you Christmas be merry and the New Year everything you wish for.
