Implore

Frozen in time, rooted in a bed of white-petalled blossoms, who is she imploring? To what lover or god does she appeal? And why do they not answer? Why do they leave her here, surrounded by the garden’s beauty, yet captive nonetheless?

bird,

she is
obviously
imploring the
person who took her clothes to return them so that she can hide herself from that peering periscope in the garden pond

perhaps, /t, perhaps.

but your comment raises the question -

who sees her as clothed?
who sees her as naked?

i see a flimsy, climsey dress about her. above her knees, there is no clear, well-defined inidcator of her legs (as there is below the knees) which to me means she is wearing a dress - perhaps a sleeveless summer dress.

clothing is in the eye of the beholder.

/bark bark bark

she looks like one of those ladies on the front of a ship.
it reminds me of a horror movie where the girl in the nightgown goes out into the dark garage to investigate a weird noise. (smart thinking!) and then this sculpture is where she sees whats making that weird noise. yike!

She is imploring her love to return from the sea.

/t, perhaps the periscope, camouflaged as a light fixture, is her lover keeping an eye on her. The lover is being held captive and is being tormented by being able to see her but not able to reach her.

I see her as having a sleeveless shift on. Isn't it great for art to be in the eye of the beholder?

Thanks, bird, for the mystery. I implore you to continue on your search for the answers to life's most perplexing questions. lol

I see the embodiment of echo for ever calling and only ever hearing her own voice in reply.

nevertheless, she is beautiful. Where does she reside bird?

/t - you are treading on dangerous territory - putting words in my mouth. i never said you were a lech. however, if you have intimate relationships with that statue on my blog, well...i may have to exercise some form of censorhship. or perhaps send you and the statue to abstinence training. hahahaha!

k9 - now yours is an eerie interpretation - but i can see it - if i could photoshop this image to represent it i would (hint, hint).

little lamb - with whom (besides /t) is she communicating?

so jack, her lover is SPYING on her? perhaps he's a member of NSA?

blue - ah, so maybe she's pysche? calling for cupid - echo makes me think of that. her home is in The Buchart Gardens in Victoria BC (/t - not your neck of the woods, but certainly part of your national psyche, eh?). I was there summer of 2005. i could have stayed in that garden all day - could have hung a hammock and slept there too - if the gardeners would only have let me.

Could she simply appearing grateful to have found such a lovely spot to be rooted to?

My dad went to Canada and to these gardens just after my mum died, to visit my sister. He loved this place..being an avid gardener himself.

BTW I didn't notice that whe was clothed or unclothed... I just saw her face. MMm no wonder I was no good at being a Customs officer!!!

Thank you for sharing this.

I see her metaphorically naked but physically clothed because, perhaps? she's all too aware that she's in the garden? Okay, I know I'm completely bringing in my own biblical reading, but....

hmmmm...so disguised...she's aware she's in the garden (THE (?) GARDEN)...but is she aware she's naked - or is the viewer only aware? hmmmm...if she's not aware, then she has not yet fallen from grace, but the viewer has (hmm - /t - have you fallen from grace - didn't i hear a rumor that you were akin to lucifer?).....

peaches - clearly as a viewer you have grace as for you clothing or the lack thereof wasn't part of the "picture."

yes, i've been there

great garden -- fantastic flora and fauna -- and those amazing nekkid twins, dora and donna

re: K9's comment -- am guessing she found Medusa in the garden as she here is turned to stone

bird, I am crushed. weep sob weep lol

She and her lover are being punished for offending the god(s) for some perceived intransigence.

peaches, you're perception is so pure, it is absolutely delightful

/t, I would never have guessed you were a lech. tee hee, snerx, giggle and one muffled guffaw.

Good Bird :) Since my teens I have loved this quote-
Her look pinged something in me~

I think she is praying that she has found heaven, in the simple life she leads- and awaits an answer...

Oh- and don't we all? :)

Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving holiday :)

She no longer feels the pain, nor the tears or anger, either.
She is quiet for all time amid the beauty of the earth, forever in a pose of thanks for the time she had as a real woman.

One day, after a time and times and half a time (or, in other words, sooner or later) she may yet come back to us as a real woman once again.

jack - should we have a chapin lyrics contest? oh no!

bronxbt - nice to see you. and ok, i'll take your word for it - she's in the buck as you so charmingly ;)put it. (now i'm sure /t will accuse me of favortism - he seems to think i thought him a lech for suggesting she was nekkid.

boneman - but why is she no longer a real woman? did she choose to become still and silent? is she toling out a penance?
