For AB

crush of semester
brain is festering
students are messin'
with papers and grades

and all i want to do is
sit in the park and wear shades

stacks of papers on the living room floor
bleeding purple, green, and black
i just can't bear to look at them anymore
so I stuff them in my sack
and take them back

to the office.
but there is no solace
in the office
nothing but a harder chair
that makes me work at a feverish pitch
even though i want to play hookey and ditch
that last essay
which i finish with a flourish
and a sashay

only to see another stack
has taken its place
oh dear god - bring me fortitude to keep up the pace!

for after grading
there's an apartment to clean
must bring it to a sheen
for a party friday night
i hope i am not so worn out i look like a fright!

SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK!

FLAP/FLAP/FLAP
SWOOSH, SWOOP AND SOAR

that ain't rap
it aint got the right
smooth and flow
and don't signify
rectify
nor specify
a witness

can i get one please?

oh my sisters and brothers,
will someone send a rap this way
show the polly wanna
how it done
how we can be one
with the hustle and flow
and the back beat
send me some heat
from the street
and don't be messin
with the teach!

(that's not really rap either - but it's closer! i love the form, but haven't studied it enough to do it right. there's ryhming schemes, and cetain conventions as well - nods back to - gotta give props to what comes before, gotta move the lines - push them out even more...)

oh, but thank you my sister for the props you supplied.
i wish i was so good that i didn't
have to deny
such praise
- such a voice you have raised.

(there i go again - but that' snot rap really either - or rather - it's a bad attempt at rap. gotta try though - haha!)

OK, I'll send you a rap that I'll betcha you'll like.
'Tain't my own and I didn't even write it down because it's mostly in Spanish and I'm not smart enough to be bilingual yet.
But, I'll tell you where it hides, and be sure to check it out.
Within the movie
Ten Items or Less
with Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega.
The song will be while they're at the carwash and she's in the bathroom changing clothes.

Really nice piece.
The song....
Well, Paz, too, but, it would be rude of me to say she's a nice "piece" and leave it at that, eh?

Meanwhile, I noticed it the other way around....
Auntie said she was gonna send cops over to yer place if you didn't post.
Maybe there's something else laying around besides papers to grade?

Nah!
But, what a great job you have! You get to help all those kids become better communicaters...
communicators...
communicationers...
oh, heck!
You know what I mean.
Because of your guidance, they'll be better inthe end. Maybe even learn how to spell.
