Obama! Obama! Obama!
The cynic in me says it doesn't matter -
he has already lost the general election
because of
the color of his skin
the content of his name
the character (and stupidity) of the average American voter.
But the idealist in me revels
in this landmark moment.
The idealist wants the impossible
to happen in November.
So I will mix water with wine
and burn the clean, white bone of a fatted lamb
as sacrifice to the gods.
I will cross my fingers
step carefully over sidewalk cracks.
I will light candles in church
and pray on my knees.
I will beseech the blessed
Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
Goddess of all that is good and right
to intercede on Obama's behalf
on my behalf.
I will write letters.
Walk precincts.
Donate money.
Blog.
Register voters.
And I will book a hotel room in Washington DC for January,
just in case
just in case.
Because why not?

cheer up boyed. i think he will be president. i hope not, but i think he will. convenient point in your poem that anyone who rejects him is racist or stupid. i guess his lame ass resume and poor judge of character will have to be in MY poem. grrrrrrerhahahaha

(and call me on my shit - though bird's shit don't stink - hah! ;) ) but i don't really mean that anyone who is against obama is racist and stupid - but some people are against him only because of that. some folks are against him because of more rational, reasonable arguments. i disagree with your assessment of his judgment and his resume; however, i acknowledge that you have valid points. you arrive at a reasonable conclusion - though it is not the only one.
now, some people are so stupid, they haven't a clue - like the damn talking head that said Obama needs to eat hot dogs with the people so they can relate to him - so they can see him as plain folks. Christ almighty - so many things awry with that. but maybe the idiot has a point - because some people vote based on stupid shit (propaganda actually) like that. sigh.
i have no faith in the American voter over all.

i have actually worked on a campaign boyed. for herman cain in 2004. he ran for zell millers seat in the senate. hes black - a morehouse grad who became the CEO of Godfathers pizza. anyway -hes a fair tax proponent. ...but he was defeated by jonny isaakson.
now he has a conservative radio show - i think its syndicated but its out of ATL. he is funny as all get out -and he doesnt attack liberals -he presents ideas. and like blends it up with common sense stuff. he has a great way about him. i love him. i wish he was running for president.
point: for me? its the ideas. not the skin.
yes the primary is too long. its detremental to the process.
