The War on Women

Clearly, the War on Women is experiencing an escalation (or as our sistah Condi would say - an augmentation).

Two key signs that indicate a sharp surge in this agressive effort against women:

1. As an “unintended” result of the Medicaid prescription drug overhaul, the cost of birth control pills is rising – sometimes doubling and tripling. Unintended my vagina. No doubt, this is just the thing the former Republican congress would do to pander to their Christian fundie base.

2. Africa’s Ivory Coast, home to the largest cocoa producer, has suffered a drought – which in turn will affect the cocoa orchards and the market. (C’mon Senator Inhofe – even a prick like you can now agree – global warming is a serious threat!) Although the current cocoa crop is not affected, chocolate prices are soaring and a shortage is anticipated – just in time for the end of the Lent and Easter Sunday – perhaps the impending chocolate shortage is not just part of the War on Women, but a part of the War on Easter as well. Could it be that the Christian fundies and feminists have a cause in common?

Girls, we'd best stock up on birth control and chocolate!

I always knew there would be an issue or two that women and men could get together on. Vaginal intentions and Chocolate. giggle.

Seriously, there may just be something to the conspiracy concept here. Little to the fundies realize they are doomed, damned and f**king wrong.

So while you are out there stocking up on the good stuff, remember the dark chocolate is the best for you, and it goes great with a nice dry red wine.

A toast to a common goal--lower prices on the things that matter.

Bird,

I have sensed this coming for a long time. I first noticed it when Medicaid would cover Viagra, but not birth control. Then I looked at the price of condoms compared to sponges. Then I noticed that all of the "attractive" women look like 12 year old boys. Now they want to take away my chocolate. Well I say f*@K that! I will get my dark chocolate, my birth control, and my confused man, and I will scream at the top of my lungs, "We are not silent anymore. We will not be submissive!" Then I will vote for any non-incumbent.

A War on Women is also a War on Men. Remember how freeing the 1960's were for men whe the pill was invented...no more forced marriages..etc etc..

There must be hundreds of these examples..

For instance there are a small group of women in Bangladesh who are learning how to drive...oh whaaa! Yes they are living in a Muslim country so women aren't allowed to drive...however it is hard to learn because they can't read...Muslim women are not encouraged to be educated...so these feisty women are taking matters into their own hands and learning to drive a car, change a wheel and by the way, read.
It takes a year.
Small steps but the War on Women can be moved along if we support the women who are going against the grain of their patriachs and standing up.
Great Post Bird.

(BTW Blue said her computer has blown up, so to let you and Jack know she will be back as soon as possible)
